Defying Doomsday: It’s ALIVE!

It’s ALIVE!

I mean live! The Defying Doomsday Pozible campaign is live!

For those of you who don’t know, Defying Doomsday is an anthology of apocalypse-survival fiction with a focus on disabled characters. I am editing the anthology with Tsana Dolichva and it will be published in 2016 by Twelfth Planet Press.

Apocalypse fiction rarely includes characters with disability, chronic illness and other impairments. When these characters do appear, they usually die early on, or are secondary characters undeveloped into anything more than a burden to the protagonist. Defying Doomsday will be an anthology showing that disabled characters have far more interesting stories to tell in post-apocalyptic/dystopian fiction.

We are running a crowdfunding campaign through Pozible in order to raise funds for production costs, including paying our authors a professional rate. We have some fantastic stories lined up already, but we’ll also be holding an open submissions period after the campaign.

I’m so excited about this project. As many of you know, I’m very passionate about the need to diversify the characters we see in fiction, and it means so much to me to have the opportunity to help make that happen in Defying Doomsday. Thank you so much to Alisa and Tsana for having me on board.

Thank you especially to anyone and everyone who supports Defying Doomsday. I appreciate any support you can give the project, whether by backing the campaign or helping us spread the word.

Ah! I’m so excited right now!
