Tom the Giraffe

There’s no new post this week, just a giraffe.

His name is Tom and he is 37 years old, which is quite old for a giraffe, probably (I have no idea).

While Tom enjoys the odd cocktail, he does not like getting caught in the rain. Luckily for Tom, this is rarely an issue since he lives in the dessert.. that is, desert (the one with sand, not cakes, much to Tom’s displeasure).

After the recent installation of a television in the clearing down the road, Tom has become concerned about the possibility of a penguin invasion. During our regular conversations over Skype, I’ve assured him that such incursions are only the subjects of fiction. He remains troubled.

Tom dreams that one day he will be the first giraffe in space. I don’t see it happening, personally.

But, you never know.

  1. Wikipedia says giraffes live to 25 in the wild (I had to look it up), but I imagine Tom, with access to wifi and television – and especially, if he has a memory foam mattress to rest his weary neck on – may have had an easier than average life.

    • You Googled for me! <3 <3 <3
I spoke to Tom and he says he has an ergonomic mattress and the spirit of a five year old, so he may yet have time to make it to the moon.

    • This is so totally awesome!!! I love the project and your giraffe! I only wish it wasn’t over so I could send in a picture of Tom.

      • Sadly Tom would not have qualified – the catch in the project was that entries had to be constructed in non-digital form and then photographed or scanned. That was part of the fun – it forced you away from the computer for a bit.

  2. Oh dear, Tom’s VERY old…positively giraffatric. Sorry, a very poor attempt at humor there! I wonder about the wisdom of cocktails but perhaps they lose their potency by the time they trickle down to his tummy. I do hope he makes it into space. Mind you, one good bounce on his mattress and a stretch of his neck and he’s almost there.q
